Grana Hotel Pays Tribute to Oaxaca's Pre-Hispanic Culture

HOTEL • Mexico is full of addresses as magnificent as they are authentic. The latest example is the Grana guesthouse, located in the heart of Oaxaca’s historic center in a 16th-century building. This three-century-old house, named Casa Navarra, was recently renovated with the help of the finest contemporary architects, artists, designers, and artisans.

Grana, like grana cochinilla, the coveted insect for its precious red-pink pigment. A hue subtly woven throughout the Mexican hotel: terracotta tiles, table legs, clay bathtubs, and basins are splashed with a deep carmine red, contrasting with the lush green of vegetation and ceramic pots from the village of Santa María Atzompa. Shades that evoke the duality between the parasitic insect and its host, the cactus.
